On December 24, 1968, in what was the most watched television broadcast at the time, the crew of Apollo 8 read in turn from the Book of Genesis as they orbited the moon. Bill Anders, Jim Lovell, and Frank Borman recited verses 1 through 10, using the King James Version text. On February 5, 1971, the First Lunar Bible was carried to the surface of the moon on board the Apollo 14 lunar module Antares by Lunar Module Pilot Edgar D. Mitchell.The Apollo Prayer League was a group of NASA engineers, scientists, administrators and astronauts.The Apollo Prayer League created a microfilm Bible and 300 microfilm copies were carried to the lunar surface. The microfilm is about 1.5 inches square, and yet contains all 1,245 pages of the King James Bible. These pages so small that they must be read under a microscope. This Lunar Bible is the only complete copy of the Bible to have flown to the surface of the Moon. Praise God!!
